In addition to the AB Show sessions led by industry professionals, we are thrilled to share our limited series of Kroc Center-only seminars, led by our esteemed colleagues and experienced resources. These workshops provide the perfect opportunity to learn new skills, network, and explore the diverse offerings available at Kroc Centers from other Territories.

Kroc Center Community Wellness Programming: Impacting the Social Determinants of Health

Learn how your local Kroc Center can take a mind/body/spirit approach to improving community wellness, taking full advantage of community resources, and filling unanswered community needs. This workshop will help you identify your Kroc center’s strengths and assets, begin to assess what are some of your greatest community resources and connections you already have, and walk you through the basic checklist of steps to take in building a community wellness program.

Joseph Abate, a retired physician practicing cardiology for 30 years before becoming the Chief Medical Officer of Heritage Health, a Federally Qualified Health Center in Coeur d’Alene that provides medical services regardless of insurance status. While at Heritage Health, Dr. Abate oversaw a wellness program, called Kroc Rx, where patients had weekly office visits consisting of exercise, diet instruction, and social interaction. Participants included patients with chronic medical  and mental illness, addiction.

Jules Cosby, Community Outreach and Education Specialist at the Coeur d’Alene Kroc Center. With 20+ years of experience in education and 15+ years in health and fitness Jules loves the opportunity the Kroc brings to pull these strengths and education together. Her goal is to learn how to extend compassion and support to the Kroc community. Jules enjoys sharing her faith through a passion of movement by way of Pilates, growing gardens, and inspiring others.

Major Don Gilgeran Officer for 39 years and having assignments throughout the western US including the Coeur d’Alene Ray and Joan Kroc  Center Administrator/Corps Officer and overseas including Eastern Europe. Don and his wife Ronda have four children and ten grandchildren. Don enjoys all sports and is an avid golfer.

Collaborative Scalability

Learn how to maximize missional impact through community collaboration. By allowing community partners to contribute their strengths to common goals, the impact can be significant. See how utilizing Kroc resources to coordinate and lead by example, without overly taxing your own teams efforts, are a sure-fire way to reach those who will benefit most from the outreach. Learn how The CDA Kroc Center took their Mobile Kroc program and grew from a 7-school outreach to a 17-school outreach over the course of one year. It works! And as long as everyone can accept their role, it can work for your community too! Missional impact can look different in every community, but the common thread of sharing God’s love never wavers.

Stacy Barney oversees the departments that directly impact programming and customer service. She often says that in an arena that can get complicated quickly with operational requirements, the two aspects of work that are most important are member and employee safety and customer service. Stacy is a long time Kroc employee with a supportive husband and daughter heading to college in  fall of 2023.

Kip Sharbono works collaboratively with the Kroc Center executive and leadership teams to ensure the mission, vision, and core values of The Coeur d’Alene Kroc Center are on the forefront of all key decisions. Finances, business, and community engagement are his areas of focus. Kip is a long-time employee with a beautiful and energetic family that includes his wife and two elementary aged kids, Beckham and Finn.

Kroc Center Healthy Aging Demonstration Project

The “Healthy Aging Demonstration Project” workshop will include a panel presentation focused on an overview of Vitalize 360 tools and practices, an overview of the demonstration project including the program design/approach, a unique on-boarding/engagement model, staff engagement/training, marketing/promotion, and the preliminary results of quantitative/qualitative measurement of the project’s impact.

Rebecca Donato is the Executive Director for Vitalize 360, an innovative health and wellbeing model sponsored by Hebrew SeniorLife, a Harvard Medical School affiliate and the largest aging services system in New England. In this role, Rebecca works as a consultant and trainer to non-profit senior living organizations around the country that are committed to empowering older adults to live their healthiest and most vibrant life. Vitalize 360 members engage in practices that keep an organizational focus on “What Matters Most” to each person and pro-actively support older adults in staying connected to the drivers of meaning and purpose in everyday life.

Lexi Olinske serves as Fitness & Sports Manager at the Kroc Community Center in Green Bay, WI, directly overseeing daily operations and session programming for the fitness and sports department. With over 8 years of experience in all aspects of fitness, Lexi is distinguished in health and wellness programs for youth and senior citizens alike.  In collaboration with Grand Rapids & Chicago Kroc Centers, Lexi helped to create and implement a Healthy Aging initiative to better serve senior members.

 

 

Bram Roberts is currently the director for program and mission engagement for The Salvation Army’s Central Territory Kroc Department. Prior to this role, Bram served as the General Manager and Program Director at the Grand Rapids Kroc Center and was the first employee hired for the Grand Rapids Kroc Center in 2010. Bram is a Certified Parks and Recreation Executive (CPRE) and an adjunct professor with Indiana Wesleyan University. Bram’s passions include programming, strategic planning/management, customer service, and mission integration.

Lt. Colonel James Nauta is a professional social worker, and active retired Officer. Colonel has been serving as a Project Specialist Consultant for Kroc Corps Community Centers. Among other aspects of this role, includes coordinating the National Certificate in Kroc Center Leadership Program, the National Kroc Operating Standards, the Central Territory's Evaluation Review process, and supporting a territorial Kroc Specialty Funding Initiative which includes the Youth Asset Development Initiative, Kroc Fit Kids, and Kroc Senior Wellness programs.

Peer-to-Peer Abuse: 
Navigating the Impact on Youth Serving Organizations

Peer-to-Peer (P2P) abuse can range from sexual to physical and cyber interactions between children. Data on P2P abuse suggests that over 70% of sexual abuse is perpetrated by other youths who are generally older or more powerful than their victims. Additionally, approximately 40-60% or reports to insurance companies and advocacy consultancies are P2P abuse focused. This workshop will focus on how P2P abuse can happen within youth-serving organizations (such as Kroc Centers) and the cost impact financially and reputationally. Discussion will also include prevention strategies to address P2P abuse and children with problematic sexual behaviors.

 

Joe Harvey-Hall, Director of The Salvation Army’s Eastern Territorial child protection program, KeepSAfe. He has over 25 years of youth-serving organization leadership experience, previously serving as a residential camp director and Kroc Center programs director in The Salvation Army’s USA Western Territory Hawaiian & Pacific Islands Division. Joe has over 23 years of child abuse risk management experience as a child safety consultant and Praesidium Certified Guardian and holds a master’s degree in child advocacy and public policy.
